Understanding the Interface

Main Map Area

The central map displays New Zealand with various data layers. You can:

  • Zoom using the mouse wheel or +/- buttons
  • Pan by clicking and dragging
  • Search for specific locations using the search tools

  • Menu - navigate to other parts of the application
  • Home - return to the GRIP public page
  • Account menu - User settings and company management
  • Feedback - ask questions or provide suggestions
  • Help - navigate to GRIP help
  • Logout - sign out of your GRIP session

 

Search

Select search type from the dropdown (e.g. address, title, appellation) and enter your search terms

Right Side Panel and Toolbar:

  • Layer controls - Turn map layers on/off
  • Basemap switcher - Aerial basemap vs. Parcel basemap
  • Info select - Control which features are selectable, and see details about selected features
  • Survey Plan search - select a land district and enter plan numbers
  • View scale toggle  - click to toggle view scale aa, Aa, and AA
  • Map filter - apply filters to marks and vectors
  • Tool panel
    • Settings - choose opening preferences
    • Measure - measure distances and areas
    • Streetview - open clicked location in Google Streetview
    • CSV Download - export marks to CSV files
    • DXF Download - export data to DXF for CAD systems
    • Company Data - create company data points
    • KML Download - download map data for Google Earth
  • Print panel - Create maps and export to PDF
  • Zoom to  location - Use GPS location of your device and jump to that location in the map and see your location

 

Bottom Toolbar:

· Coordinate display - Your mouse position coordinates

· Projection selector - Choose coordinate system (NZTM, NZGD2000, etc.)

· Data update information - Clickarrow to see when layers were last refreshed

Essential Navigation

Basic Map Controls

Zooming:
  • Mouse wheel scroll- Zoom in/out
  • +/- buttons - Precise zoom control
  • Shift + Left Click and Drag - Zoom in on specific area
Panning:
  • Left click and drag - Move around the map

 

Coordinate Systems

Projection Selector:
  • Located in bottom-right corner of the Map
  • Choose from NZTM, NZGD2000, NZMG, and others
  • Affects coordinate display and measurements
  • Your selection is remembered between sessions on the same device

Key Data Sources:

· LINZ - Land Information New Zealand (primary data source)

· Council Data - Local infrastructure information

· Stats NZ - Administrative boundaries

· Company Data - Your organisations custom information - only visible to your organisation
