Map: printing and map production
Discover essential steps for effective print setup in map production to ensure high-quality printed materials.
Print Setup Purpose
Create high-quality printed maps and PDFs for reports, client presentations, and field reference.
Print Setup Process

Configuration Steps:
- Configure layers - Turn on/off desired data layers in the layers panel
- Click the Print Icon to open the print panel
- Click “Show Print Area” - Displays printable area outline
- Set print options:
- Paper Size - A4, A3, A2, A1
- Orientation - Portrait or landscape
- Scale - Use scale to adjust the size of the print area
- Click and Drag print area in map to ensure correct location of print area
- Scale Text - to increase/decrease the size of the text in the print
- Title - Map title for header
- Created By - record who created the print
Parcel Markup

Highlighting Features:
- Click the Markup tab of the Print Panel
- Choose a colour with the colour picker (transparent colours work well if you have aerial imagery displayed)
- Click parcels to highlight with the selected colour
- Toggle off “Select Parcel” to stop selecting colours
This tool is versatile, and an be used in conjunction with the Legend tool (below) to communicate land ownership, land use, tenure, etc to your clients or collegaues.
Legend Creation

Professional Legends:
- Enter text to create custom legend title and labels
- Color-coded entries for “Marked up” parcels (see above)
- Professional presentation format
- Reposition the legend location by dragging the legend box to ensure the legend doesn't overlap what you are trying to communicate in your map
- Select the printing tab, and click Create PDF to see the result
