GRIP supports 13 different search types:

Basic Search Methods

Quick Search

1. Click the search field 

2. Select your search category from the dropdown

3. Type your search term - suggestions appear automatically

4. Click on a suggestion to go directly to that location

5. Or press Enter to see all results

 

Full Search

  1. Type your search term in the main search field
  2. Click the magnifying glass button (or press Enter)
  3. Search panel opens showing all matching results
  4. Click any result to view that location/feature

Search Requirements and Tips

Search Requirements:
  • Most categories: Minimum 4 characters required
  • Survey Plans: Can search with any number of characters
  • Real-time search: Updates automatically as you type

 

Search Tips:
  • Known address → Address search
  • Legal description → Appellation search
  • Area exploration → Place name search
  • Technical research → Survey plan, mark, or title search

 

Example Property Research Workflow 

1. Start with address search to locate the property

2. Navigate through the links in the info panel to find additional information about the tenure, ownership, boundaries

3. Follow title links for ownership/tenure details

  1. View the data about the title in the side panel while you continue working by clicking the title number e.g. 10240 in the image above.
  2. Preview the likely content of the title in a similar layout to an official title by clicking the GRIP link
  3. Link to Landonline to purchase the official title document using the LINZ link

4. Check survey plans for technical information

  1. View survey plan via the map
    1. Turn on the layers tab and Select "Survey Plans" to turn then on in the map.
    2. Ensure the button is showing in this state so you can select the survey plan references in the map
    3. Click on a survey plan reference to see if GRIP has a free copy of the plan
    4. In the example below there are 4 Black and White Imperial plans, 1 colour plan, and 1 link to buy the official document from Landonline

Tip - if you are interested to know whether LINZ has a more recent version of the plan (colour/higher resolution), check the Landonline Image Date - if it is more modern than approx 2002/2003 then LINZ will have a higher quality image in Landonline  - click landonline web search to go to Landonline and buy the plan.

Search History Management

Using Search History:
  • Click in the search field to see recent searches
  • Pin searches - Keep important searches or active jobs at the top
  • Remove searches - Delete from history (e.g. X)
  • Category labels - Each history item shows which category it belongs to (e.g. address)

 

Company Data Search

Custom Data Integration:
  • Search your organisation’s custom data points
  • Combined with LINZ data for complete picture
  • Project tracking and client information
  • Field references and site details
 

Combining Search Types:

  • Start with one search type, refine with another
  • Use property address to find appellation
  • Use appellation to find related survey plans
  • Use survey plans to find related marks
Search Strategy Tips:
  • For property research: Address → Links in info panel → Title
  • For survey work: Plan → Marks → Vectors
  • For area exploration: Place name/Address → Individual properties
  • For ownership research: Owner → Multiple properties
