2  What you can search for

  Appellation A legal description: Lot 1 DP 123456.
  Title A title reference: WN53C/751.
  Owner Surname, Firstname — or a company name. Always a full search.
  Road Name Molesworth Street.
  Place Name A suburb, town or city.
  Survey Plan DP 123456, or just 123456. Works from the first character.
  Mark Name IT I DP 123456.
  Geodetic Code A four-character geodetic code: EC8D.
  Node ID A Landonline node id: 43483730.
  Parcel ID A Landonline parcel id: 3851642.
  Facilities A school, hospital or other public facility by name: Wellington Hospital.
  Company Data Your own firm’s points, by label or by anything typed into their fields.
Good to know  Most searches start suggesting after four characters. Survey Plan is the exception and works from the first.
  1. Choose the search type.
  2. Start typing. Suggestions appear under the box.
  3. Click a suggestion. The map goes there, selects it, and opens its details in the panel.

When you know part of what you want — the street but not the number — type it and press Enter or click the magnifying glass. Every match is listed in the Search panel; click one to go to it.

Tip  If a full search finds exactly one match, GRIP goes straight to it.

5  Recent searches and pins

Click in the empty search box and your recent searches appear, each with its search type in brackets.

  • Pin a search to keep it at the top of the list. Pins suit the jobs you are working on this week.
  • Remove a search with the cross beside it.
  • Clicking a recent search runs it again, in its own search type.

6  Survey plans, marks and titles

Searching a survey plan, a mark or a title takes you to it and opens its own panel — the plan with its images to download, the mark with its coordinates and orders, the title with its estate and interests.

7  Facilities

Facilities finds public places by name — schools, hospitals and the like — when you know what a place is called but not its address.

8  Owners

Choose Owner and type a name as Surname, Firstname, or a company’s name. An owner search is always a full search: the panel lists the matching owners, and choosing one shows the titles they hold, with the parcels on the map.

Note  Owner information mirrors LINZ’s data as GRIP last received it, and LINZ withholds some titles. For anything that matters legally, follow the LINZ link on the title to the official record.

9  Company data

Choose Company Data to search your own firm’s points — by label, or by anything typed into their fields. Labels of three characters or fewer do not suggest: type the label and press Enter. See Company Data - creating, adding, and searching for company data.

10  Quick answers

Nothing appears as I type.

Suggestions need four characters, and the search type has to match what you are typing. An address typed into a Title search finds nothing.

Can I search by coordinates?

Not directly. Zoom near the place and read the coordinates under the pointer at the bottom right of the map, in the datum chosen beside them.

A new address is missing.

Addresses and parcels come from LINZ and are refreshed about weekly. A new subdivision can take a while to arrive. Try the appellation or the survey plan.

The search type keeps changing back.

GRIP opens on the search type you last used. Change it and it stays changed.
