1  Signing in

GRIP is a website: there is nothing to install. Go to app.grip.co.nz and sign in with your email address and your password. Your email address is your username, and a licence is for one person, so a login is never shared.

  1. Type your email address and password, and click Sign in.
  2. The first time, you are asked to set a new password in place of the temporary one from your welcome email, and to accept the terms and conditions.
  3. The map opens. A device stays signed in for up to five days, so you will not be asked every time you open the map.
Tip  Bookmark app.grip.co.nz itself. An old bookmark to some other address (the sign-in page, say) is the most common reason a sign-in fails.

2  A forgotten password

  1. On the sign-in page, click Forgot your password?
  2. Type the email address your login uses and send it. An email with a verification code comes from GRIP.
  3. Type the code and your new password, then sign in with it.

Good to know  The reset email comes from support@grip.co.nz: check your junk and spam folders first. If nothing has arrived after a few minutes, email support@grip.co.nz with the address your login uses and we reset it from our end, which sends you fresh login details.

3  Cannot sign in?

Most sign-in problems are quick to fix yourself. Work down the list; each one clears a common cause.

  • Use the right address. Go straight to app.grip.co.nz, and do not bookmark any other link. Once you are in, update the bookmark.
  • Clear your browsing data, then close the browser completely and open it again. This fixes a blank sign-in page, and a Sign in button that opens a new page but never signs you in.
  • Try a private window, or a different browser. If that works, the problem is your usual browser’s stored data, and clearing it (above) sorts it.
  • Only failing at the office? If GRIP loads on your phone over mobile data but not on the office network, ask your IT team to allow app.grip.co.nz through the firewall or antivirus.
  • “Incorrect username or password.” Your username is your email address, and the password must match exactly. Reset it as in section 2.
  • Added by your administrator, but still no luck? Email support@grip.co.nz and we can check your login and send your details again.
Good to know  Three checks narrow it down before you email: is it just you, or the whole team? Just this device, or your phone as well? Just GRIP, or other websites too? Tell us the answers and we can get you back in faster.

Still stuck? Email support@grip.co.nz with a screenshot of what you see and what you have tried. See Getting help and giving feedback.

4  Logging out

The menu at the top left has two ways out. Log out ends your session on this device only. Log out everywhere ends it on every device you have signed in on — this one included — and asks you to confirm first.

Log out and Log out everywhere, at the foot of the menu.

Use Log out everywhere when a device is no longer yours — a phone you have replaced, a computer you shared — or if you think someone else has your password. Change the password afterwards, from the sign-in page.

Log out everywhere asks before it ends every session.

5  Where your settings are

Setting Where it is
Where the map opens, which layers are on, the plan district The Settings cog at the bottom right of the map, on its Map defaults tab. Saved to your login, so they follow you to any computer. See Make GRIP yours.
Your name, firm and logo for printing, and what a new sheet starts from The same cog, on its Print settings tab. Kept in the browser you set them in.
The datum the coordinates are in The list at the bottom right of the map, beside the coordinates.
Your firm’s users, licences and company data fields Account in the menu, for administrators. See Your GRIP account.

6  Quick answers

The reset email has not arrived.

Check junk and spam for an email from support@grip.co.nz. If it is not there, email us the address your login uses and we will reset it from our end.

I do not know which email address my login uses.

It may be one you use less — a university address, say, rather than a personal one. Email support@grip.co.nz and we can confirm which address has access.

GRIP keeps asking me to sign in.

Every device asks again after five days; that is by design. Sooner than that, a browser that clears its data on closing, or a private window, forgets the sign-in each time: use a normal window, and let it keep GRIP’s data.

I can see the map but there is no Account in my menu.

Only your firm’s administrators see Account. Ask them for the change you need, or ask them to make you an administrator.

New to GRIP? Day 1: sign in and find a property takes you from the first sign-in to a property on the map.
